Manhunt 2 News | Jack Thompson comments on Manhunt 2

Yeap, you guessed it from the news title Jack Thompson is on Rockstar's back
already with a letter stating his intentions regarding the release of Manhunt
2. He wants to ban the game, surprise, surprise, saying that he was asked by
individuals in the United Kingdom to stop the distribution of Manhunt 2 before
it comes out. I wonder who these individuals could be hmm. This was posted on
the forums the other day but incase you missed it here is the letter that was
apparently sent out from the man himself:

Miami attorney and anti-violent video game activist Jack Thompson has been
asked by individuals in the United Kingdom to help stop the distribution of
Take-Two / Rockstar's hyperviolent video game Manhunt 2 in that country due
out this summer. The game will feature stealth murder and torture. The last
version allowed suffocation of victims with plastic bags.

The original Manhunt was responsible for the bludgeoning death of a British
youth by his friend who obsessively played the game. The killer used a hammer
just as in the game he played. Take-Two / Rockstar, anticipating the firestorm
of criticism with the release of the murder simulator sequel, is lying to
the public on both sides of the pond in stating this week that the game had
nothing to do with the murder.

Take-Two is also stating that the sun does not rise in the east because Take-Two
makes no money from its rising in the east. Take-Two has been repeatedly found
in the U.S. by the federal government to be guilty of fraud, so what would
one expect it to say.

Jack Thompson has agreed to this request from the U.K. Look for this effort
to begin shortly given the summer of 2007 release date.

This goes back to an earlier news post we made on the 8th of February. For
that particular news post click here.

This was when Mr and Mrs Pakeerah spoke out against Manhunt 2 and Rockstar
responded with the following:

We are aware that in direct contradication to all available evidence, certain
individuals continue to link the original Manhunt title to the Warren Leblanc
case in 2004. "The transcript of the court case makes it quite clear
what really happened. At sentencing the Judge, defence, prosecution and Leicester
police all emphasised that Manhunt played no part in the case.

The fact is, it wasn't lies but we will let you decide for yourself read the
news post and leave a comment.

Manhunt 2 News | Hunting for Justice

Forum member Robertfltn'
has alerted us to an article that he sent in to ‘4Player’ as
featured on the video game section of ‘Teletext’
in the UK. In the article Robertfltn has the following to say:

I’m writing this 4Player feature in response to a letter GC received
regarding Manhunt 2.

The viewer hoped the game would be banned and I feel that raises a question
about video games and freedom of speech.

Many people unfairly judge video games such as Manhunt 2, without ever really
playing or understanding them.

For example, do any of you viewers know what Manhunt 2’s storyline
is?

It is a very loose adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, in which
you play as Daniel Lamb, who’s imprisoned in a mental asylum.

There, psychiatrist Dr Whyte is testing mind- altering drugs on the inmates
to create assassins for the US government and you attempt to escape.

It seems to me all the people wanting Manhunt 2 to be banned simply on its
name are the same as the government in the ‘80s who brought in video
nasty censorship.

Many of the films branded “video nasty” are now regarded as classics
(The Exorcist. Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and who knows, maybe Manhunt 2 will
be too.

Also the implication that no-one liked the original is totally false.

Many people found the original Manhunt both challenging and innovative.

In fact it even has a fansite (manhuntuncut.com), none of whose members are
“sickos” in any way.

In you don’t like Manhunt, don’t buy it, but you should stand
up for freedom of speech as it is a basic right every person and every form
of art – whether it be literature, music, film or video games –
deserve.

To those in the UK that want to get access to the original article you should
go over to the TV channel ITV, hit text and then go to channel 806.

Manhunt 2 News | Manhunt 2 Pre-Order Links Live

If you head over to the Official
Manhunt 2 Website you can now see a list of potential places to pre order
the game. It should also be noted that some of the sites have release dates
listed ranging from May 11th (UK) to August 02nd (US) none of these dates are
from Rockstar themselves and are only projected dates by the retailer. Traditionally
Rockstar games have been released in the US on the Tuesday with a UK release
three days later on the Friday.

I also want to address some issues people have been emailing in about, the
box art listed on various websites and in the gallery
is only placeholder; the official box art for the game has yet to be revealed.
The original Manhunt had at least two temporary art variations that differ from
the final product and nothing has been revealed about the games release date
in Australia and other countries.

As soon as any official details are revealed about the games release in other
countries we will be sure to post it here.
Manhunt 2 News | Suda 51 Challenges Manhunt 2

IGN
Wii has published an interview with Suda 51 (Goichi Suda) of ‘Michigan:
Report from Hell’,’ Killer 7’ and among others the upcoming
Nintendo Wii exclusive ‘No More Heroes’ fame. In the interview Suda-san
is quoted as saying:

I'll also try my best to make No More Heroes as violent, or even more violent
than Manhunt 2!

When Killer 7 was released it caused mild controversy due to its subject matter
and was one of the games that drew the attention of the likes of Jack Thompson,
however the game was quickly forgotten about.

I am actually looking forward to ‘No More Heroes’ and have enjoyed
Suda 51s previous titles, I personally believe that ‘Killer 7’ was
one of the most overlooked titles released in recent years, however I do think
he is missing the point of Manhunt and could potentially harm his own game by
focusing solely on the violence aspect of it. Or am I the only one that thinks
of the violence in Manhunt as a gateway to creating an intangible atmosphere
that wouldn’t otherwise be possible.

I also find it interesting that he specifically mentions Manhunt 2 rather than
the original title, Rockstar games are published by Capcom in Japan and are
usually released 2 too 3 years after their release in English speaking territories.
But with the recent release of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas over there perhaps
there is more focus on Rockstar than usual.

Manhunt 2 News | More on Manhunt 2 Promo Material

When I got home this afternoon there was a letter sitting for me from ‘Dixmor
Hospital’, it is the same letter that was covered a few days back. It
appears as though the blood splatter on the ID bracelets is random, so no two
bracelets are alike. Nothing huge but it is a nice little touch.
What also wasn’t really mentioned in the previous postings of this promotional
material was the fact that there are absolutely no signs whatsoever on the letter
or envelope to suggest that this is actually from Rockstar. Besides the ID bracelets
reading ‘Manhunt 2’ you would be completely fooled into believing
there is some legitimacy behind the letter. I will upload some more images into
the gallery once I transfer them over to my computer, they will be located here.

The street that I live in is full of ‘nosy neighbours’, so much
so that if you take your dog for a walk at 4am you can expect to be asked about
it the following day. The neighbour to the right of my house is so nosy that
they actually go out for my mail, so supposing I receive a package and the postman/woman
has to knock the door for me to receive the parcel it is pointless me even going
to the door since he is already out signing for it just so he can hopefully
have a guess as to what it is, regardless of me ordering it I still get the
‘I think it might be a DVD’ or ‘it feels like clothing’,
anything just in hopes of me confirming their suspicions. With that in mind
I have to say the idea did cross my mind of actually putting the letter in his
letterbox, if for nothing else than to see his face as he hands me it a few
hours later.

I have also uploaded a clip to YouTube taken from IGN; the clip is from February
6th and has Matt Casamassina and Mark Bozon of IGN Wii discussing Manhunt 2
on the Nintendo Wii. I have edited out all the stuff that you aren’t interested
in, the clip itself is nothing special but it is always something for you to
peep if you have nothing else going on. You can view the clip by clicking here.

And once again thanks to Rockstar for taking the time and effort to grant us
with such items, it is very much appreciated!
Manhunt 2 News | Manhunt 2 on the Wii Proposition #1

In the 02/08/07 episode of Gamespots ‘On the Spot’ they have some
of the guys in from EA demonstrating the controls for ‘The Godfather:
Black Hand Edition’ on the Nintendo Wii. I am not particularly the biggest
fan of EA games; in fact the last game they published that I purchased was the
original SSX game back at the launch of the Playstation 2. But from watching
the video of ‘The Godfather: Black Hand Edition’ in motion I can’t
help but think how the controls could be applied to Manhunt 2, if not for anything
else it demonstrates that it can be done and be very effective and intuitive.
I suggest that everyone check the video out for one possible route Rockstar
may choose to go with Manhunt 2 on the Wii. It is only food for thought; I am
not suggesting that anyone actually invest too much interest in the game but
rather watch how it controls.

How do you think the game should control on the Wii? I have my own proposition
that I will post in a few days time.

You can view the video by clicking here.
Manhunt 2 News | Games Radar on Promo Material

Games
Radar have also posted images of the promotional material the guys at Evil
Avatar posted last night but they also included thoughts on a co-op type play
system or a partner system being included in the game. The reason for this assumption
has come from the mention of Leo Kasper on the hospital bracelet, they go onto
say that this is the first time the name has been mentioned publically, they
also speculate Danny and Leo will be our 2 new "heros" when Manhunt
2 ships this summer.

...as does the "internal memo" we received today from "Dixmor
Hospital for the Criminally Insane." Packed with two bloodstained plastic
hospital bracelets bearing the names "Lamb, Daniel" and "Kasper,
Leo" (as well as big, fat Manhunt 2 logos), the letter tersely refers
to the escape of two asylum inmates who pose a "highly serious threat
to society." "Goodbye snuff-film star, hello crazies - the revelation
of two characters seems to hint that co-op play might be in the cards for
this grisly stealth-horror sequel (or, failing that, some kind of partner
system a la Kane & Lynch). If that's true, the possibilities for creative
murder are enough to set the mind reeling.

They posted the letter to Dr. Pickman in full text form as well as an image
of the letter and hospital bracelets which i have uploaded to the gallery. Click

Manhunt 2 News | First Manhunt 2 Promotional Material

The guys over at Evil
Avatar have posted some images of promotional material for Manhunt 2. The
first of these promotional images is off a letter from ‘Dixmor Hospital
for the Criminally Insane Est. 1932’ and is addressed to a Dr. Pickman
from Dr. Whyte. The letter reads as follows:

Internal Memo

High Security Ward

URGENT

From: Dr. Whyte
To: Dr. Pickman

Re: Danny Lamb and Leo Kasper

Enclosed are Danny Lamb and Leo Kasper’s ID bracelets found discarded
after last night’s incident. This is the only potentially damaging evidence
we have found so far. I trust every possible precaution will be taken to ensure
that any records relating to these patients are destroyed.

We are all too aware that both subjects pose a highly serious threat to society,
let alone the very existence of ‘The Project’. Both patients suffer
severe psychotic episodes characterized by intense paranoia, involuntary psychotic
reactions, delusional hallucinations and acute schizophrenic disorders.

I know I don’t need to mention the severity of the consequences for
us and ‘The Project’ if these patients have escaped.

We HAVE to track them down.

Dr. Whyte

The second and third images are of two ID bracelets that reveal the following
information:

Patient: Lamb, Daniel
D.O.B: 05/29/63

Patient: Kasper, Leo
D.O.B: 06/19/72

What is interesting about that is Leo has long been expected to be a split
personality of Daniel. There is a 9 year difference gap between the two, so
perhaps it is still possible and this was the date that the alter ego was born
within Daniel. If these bracelets are to be taken literal it would imply that
they are two separate characters rather than one.

Keep in mind this is only promotional material so while it likely does reflect
the game there is a chance that it isn’t cannon. If it is to be taken
to be true then we already know more about Daniel Lamb than we ever found out
about James Earl Cash.

Pretty cool stuff nonetheless.

I have uploaded the images to the photo gallery; you can check them out by
clicking here.
